Art of Compositions: Production Blog Final Task
The shots we used in the film are very important for the movie. Each shot and angle chosen was vital for the entire tone of the movie. Since we are doing a stalker, thriller genre film, the angles, shots, and lighting determined how the film felt. For the shots, we used close-ups, long shots, shot-reverse-shots, over the shoulder shots, POV shots, etc. These shots integrated into our film supported the sense of a "thriller" feeling. As an example, the reverse shot we used sets up the rest of the film, showing how all the stalking started. Another example, such as close-up shots, illustrates the expression of characters. Such expression and emotion as fear and confusion. Onto the angles. Multiple angles used including high/low angles, tilts, etc. We chose high and low angles since they make our film overall look better and cleaner. The low and high angles have no significant impact on the storytelling. However, for the POV tilt angle used in our film, it does impact our storytelling in some way. The POV tilt is from the stalker. So with that, it adds a sense of realism from the stalker's point of view. As the stalker peeks over to observe what his victim is doing, it boosts the thriller sense we aimed for in our movie. Moving on to lighting. This might be the most important aspect in our film. Without matching the lighting conventions for the thriller genre, our film would not make sense. The lighting we used adds suspense, and a real thriller feeling. The exposure throughout the film stays somewhat low. Giving the film a dark, mysterious vibe. Overall, this is why we used all these compositions, and tried to make our film to the best of our ability!
